Motera Stadium which was formerly known as Gujarat Stadium was renamed in tribute to the "IRON MAN OF INDIA" Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. In the year 1982, Gujarat Government donated 100acres stretch of land on the banks of Sabarmati River for the construction of the new stadium. The construction of the new stadium was carried out in a Span of Nine months with a seating capacity of 54,000. Before the construction of this stadium, all the international cricket matches in the Ahmedabad were played at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporations stadium in the Navranpura area.
